Alois Knapp [Heroes Of iNAKED]
This article was taken from ASA Days - Nudist Clubhouse Group:
Alois S. Knapp emigrated from his native Austria with wife Ursula during the turbulent times between the two world wars. Settling in Chicago, Alois established his law practices whilst Ursula kept house. The Knapps assimilated swiftly to their new American life, save one important interest: their love of Freikörperkultur.
The couple, yearning for a place to enjoy the summers naturally, found the perfect stretch of Indiana farmland in 1933 west of Roselawn. Together with five guests, they established Club Zoro in Newton County on the south side of State Road just 17 kilometres from the Illinois line.
The renamed Zoro Nature Park grew in popularity after WWII ended as returning servicemen — fresh with their more worldly attitudes towards nudity — brought their brides and children to try this new type of social fraternity. Alois was also editor for the first bona fide American nudist publication, Ilsley Boone’s Sunshine and Health, in which he incorporated many photographs from Zoro to promote the club. Many of said images included Barbara Knapp, Ursula and Alois’ niece who immigrated after the war and became their hānai daughter. She was an accomplished ice skater, pilot and also managed the park’s office. Nudity was in Barbara’s blood: her favourite pastime was photography, both as the photographer as well as modeling. Her contributions from behind or in front of the camera appeared in many of the ASA journals.
By the late 1950s, Zoro Nature Park had become one of the premier clubs in the United States, sporting among other amenities its own landing strip. Alois was recognized as one of the elder statesmen in the National Nudist Council. He even appeared on the TV programme, “What's My Line” in 1958, where he stumped the panel guessing his occupation. The Knapps also owned a restaurant in Whiting, across the state line from Chicago, known for its excellent fish dinners.
After becoming the largest sun club in the nation, the Knapps decided it was time to sell and retire. Unbeknownst to them, the change of ownership would be to the detriment of social nudism and their beloved Zoro Nature Park would become Naked City. Dale and Mary Drost were the new proprietors and son Dick the “brains” behind such low-brow stunts as the annual Ms Nude Teeny Bopper Contest for pre-teen and adolescent girls, the St Patrick’s Day Erin Go Bra-less dance, and the most notorious Nudes-a-Poppin’ smut-fest, which has since moved to neighbouring Ponderosa Sun Club (Naked City closed when Dick was exiled from Indiana on child molestation charges)
To-day, Alois and Ursula are gone; Barbara quietly slipped into the annals of nudist history; Zoro’s beautiful timber-lined lake was “destroyed” after bulldozers fell all the trees to reformed the shore into a heart shaped quagmire; and the club, after spending nearly a decade of closure following Drost’s abomination, has reopened as Sun Aura. Roselawn itself — still a quiet farming centre — is known more for the two naked enterprises (neither of which are affiliated with AANR) and the crash site of American Eagle № 4184 in a field five kilometres south of the old property. Everyone in this country who loves the clothes-free life owes a bit of gratitude to Alois Knapp, the Father of American Nudism.

Car Crash Kills Owner Of Paradise Lakes Nudist Resort [News]
This article was taken from the tampabay.com website on 24 November 2011:
The owner of Paradise Lakes, one of Pasco County's largest nudist resorts, died Sunday night in a Texas vehicle crash that also critically injured his girlfriend.
John Forier, 61, of Land O'Lakes, was killed shortly after 11:30 p.m. after the 1997 Mercury sport utility vehicle he was driving veered off U.S. 385 near Hartley, a small town north of Amarillo, according to authorities. Forier tried to get back on the road but overcorrected, sending the SUV skidding across both lanes and causing it to overturn. Forier, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV, the report said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
His girlfriend, Pamela Tanner, 51, also of Land O'Lakes, was wearing a seat belt. She was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with critical head injuries.
Forier, who lived at the resort and in Martinique, bought the 72-acre nudist resort in 2007 with plans to renovate and expand it. His goal was to compete with nearby Caliente Resort and attract young people.
"All of the resorts are trending to get older and older," he told the Times in February. "We need to get new people used to the idea that it is acceptable."
Last year, Forier hired Jay and Amy Roberts to liven up the resort's entertainment and night life. The couple had been running popular pool parties at a mansion in Lutz, and Forier wanted to duplicate the success at Paradise Lakes.
Business doubled at Club Reveal, thanks to sexy themed parties. However, the increased emphasis on raciness drew criticism from some longtime residents. The resort also joined Caliente in leaving the American Association of Nude Recreation, an organization that emphasizes a family atmosphere in nudism.
"He was always very good to me," said Carolyn Hawkins, the association's public relations director, who had met Forier a few times. She said she was surprised when it severed ties with the organization.
Forier also planned a $4 million clubhouse expansion, which will triple the size of the nightclub, upgrade the gym and spa, and the addition of 14 luxury condos and a Japanese steak house. The resort is converting 48 of the 56 hotel rooms into timeshares.
"We hope to be booming," Forier said earlier this year. "The more people who come in and try it, the more people will like it."

Nudism Embraced By Younger Generation [Naturism, Youth]
Published: Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Knock, knock.
Chris, 26, peeks only his curly blond head around the door. He is naked except for his glasses and wedding ring.
"C'mon in, you guys," he beckons to the couple, Phillip, 26, and Cora, 22, standing on the doorstep. A sweet and tangy aroma meets their nostrils as they step into the foyer and quickly undress by the door. Foster the People plays through the living room speakers, while two cats lounge on the couch.
There are laughter and hugs as the couple steps into the tiny, crowded kitchen at the back of the house. Other friends have already made themselves at home.
Caz, 20, stands off to the side, as Chris moves to the sink to cut tomatoes. She wears only jewelry—a jade stone hung from a string about her neck, two snakebite lip rings and a bracelet made from small wooden beads. Her long, honey-brown hair falls gently on her shoulders.
Maddie, 19, and Felicia, 19, sit at the small kitchen table, looking, for all the world, like they were at a normal dinner party.
Carol, 30, Chris's wife, laughs as she stirs a brimming pot of apple chicken chili, wearing nothing but an apron and her wedding ring. Her dark brown hair frames her face. Cora sits down at the table, with Phillip behind her.
The kitchen is warm, almost too warm, but a delicious breeze sneaks in from a cracked window, bringing with it the crisp, evening air, cooled by the onset of autumn.
This is naked dinner...
